Kuils River, Western Cape Drug Bust: Two Arrested After R3 Million Worth of Mandrax and Crystal Meth Seized
Two suspects are expected to appear in the Kuilsriver Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, 17 June 2026, after police seized drugs with an estimated street value of R3 million during an operation in the Langverwacht area of Kuilsriver, Western Cape.
The arrests followed a swift response by members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team after receiving information about alleged drug-related activity at a local bed and breakfast. The operation resulted in the confiscation of large quantities of mandrax tablets, crystal methamphetamine, and cash believed to be linked to criminal activity.
How Police Discovered the Suspected Drug Operation in Kuils River
According to police, members of the Anti-Economic Crime Task Team in Kuils River received information during the early hours of Monday, 15 June 2026, regarding suspected drug activity at a bed and breakfast establishment in Langverwacht, Kuils River.
At approximately 04:30, officers acted on the intelligence and proceeded to the identified address. Upon arrival, they located a man matching the description provided in the information they had received.
Police found the 35-year-old male suspect together with a 29-year-old woman inside one of the rooms at the establishment. A white Volkswagen Polo parked outside the room immediately drew the attention of investigators.
Officers reportedly noticed a large black bag visible through one of the vehicle’s windows. The male suspect was then requested to unlock the vehicle so that a search could be conducted.
The search led to the discovery of what police described as a substantial quantity of illegal drugs concealed inside the vehicle.
Drugs Worth R3 Million Seized During Vehicle Search
During the inspection of the Volkswagen Polo, police uncovered multiple bags containing mandrax tablets and crystal methamphetamine.
Authorities confirmed that officers seized 51 bags containing mandrax tablets as well as five kilograms of crystal methamphetamine. The combined estimated street value of the drugs is approximately R3 million.
In addition to the narcotics, police also confiscated R17,000 in cash. Investigators believe the money may represent proceeds derived from illegal drug-related activities.
The drugs and cash were seized and registered as evidence as part of the ongoing investigation.
Large drug seizures such as this one are often viewed by law enforcement as important interventions because they prevent substantial quantities of illegal substances from reaching communities.
